This sculpture is a lay-up of handmade abaca paper, calcium carbonate, and acrylic medium. After casing paper into molds made from wax, Michael added layers of his handmade paper, using a mixture of calcium and acrylic medium. The outer layers of paper were each colored differently. Upon finishing, Michael carved through the layers to reveal these colors in a controlled and natural way. The finished piece has been sealed with an archival finish of hand-rubbed paste wax.
